The Erongo Regional Council (ERC) has launched an ambitious N$487.7-million strategic development plan for 2025-2030, focusing on critical infrastructure improvements across water supply, sanitation, and housing sectors. The announcement, made Wednesday at Walvis Bay, marks a significant step in Namibia's ongoing governance transformation.
Strategic Priorities and Budget Allocation
Chief Regional Officer Sam Ntelamo detailed the comprehensive plan, developed through extensive consultations between February and July. The initiative aims to dramatically increase household water access from 62% to 91% and improve sanitation connectivity from 54% to 72%.
Key budget allocations include:
- N$3.57 million for the Ozondati water pipeline
- N$1.06 million for rural sanitation development
- N$7 million for township services across multiple settlements
- N$2.4 million for water meter installations
Development Challenges and Solutions
While the plan demonstrates Namibia's commitment to economic development, Ntelamo acknowledged several implementation challenges, including financial constraints and aging infrastructure. The success hinges on strengthening financial management and diversifying revenue streams.
Regional Leadership and Implementation
Governor Natalia |Goagoses endorsed the initiative, highlighting its certification by the Prime Minister's Office. The plan builds on previous achievements (2017-2024), including significant water infrastructure development and support for rural enterprises.
"This strategy represents the desires and needs of our people," stated Ntelamo, emphasizing the plan's alignment with Vision 2030 and the sixth National Development Plan.
