Jesy Nelson Opens Door to Little Mix Reunion Amid Personal Challenges
Former Little Mix member Jesy Nelson has expressed cautious optimism about a potential reunion with her former bandmates, citing personal growth and changing perspectives as factors that could pave the way for reconciliation.
In a candid interview with The Sun ahead of her upcoming Prime Video documentary "Life After Little Mix," Nelson, 34, reflected on the possibility of reuniting with Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jade Thirlwall, and Perrie Edwards.
"We're all mums now [aside from Thirlwall] and I can't speak on behalf of them, but I'd like to think that we probably see things a lot differently now," Nelson explained. "I think you do, just as you get older anyway, but you know, never say never. I have so much love for them and always will."
Documentary Provides Fresh Perspective
Nelson's departure from Little Mix in December 2020 was marked by tension, and she previously revealed in 2023 that she hadn't communicated with her former bandmates for two years. However, the process of creating her documentary appears to have offered a more balanced view of her time in the globally successful group.
"It was so lovely to sit and watch all the footage and stuff that people have never even seen of archive footage of me and Little Mix," she shared. "It was really nice to be reminded of all the beautiful times that I had with them."
The singer emphasized that despite challenges, "the majority of my time in Little Mix was incredible," adding that the group's success stemmed from their genuine sisterhood and friendship.
Personal Challenges Shape New Priorities
Nelson's current focus has shifted dramatically following the recent diagnosis of her 8-month-old twin daughters, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe, with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). This inherited neuromuscular disorder affects muscle strength and movement, according to medical sources.
The health challenges have prompted Nelson to reassess her career trajectory. "I'm not sure I was ever made for this industry," she admitted. "With everything that's going on right now and with my girls, I can't even look that far ahead, but I'll always love music."
Industry Evolution and Future Prospects
Since Nelson's departure, Little Mix released one album as a trio before announcing a hiatus in 2022. The remaining members have pursued individual projects, with Edwards and Thirlwall releasing solo albums while Pinnock prepares for her debut release this month.
Nelson's documentary, set to premiere on February 13, promises to offer unprecedented insights into her journey within and beyond one of the UK's most successful girl groups, potentially setting the stage for future collaborative possibilities.
The entertainment industry continues to evolve, with artists increasingly prioritizing mental health and personal well-being alongside commercial success, reflecting broader societal shifts toward sustainable career practices.
