A groundbreaking cross-cultural musical theater production titled "People of Song: Unpacking An Untold Story" is set to make its world premiere at the National Theatre of Namibia in Windhoek on October 17, 2025, with a second performance scheduled for October 18. Both shows will begin at 18:30.
Cultural Collaboration and Storytelling
The Namibian-German production tells the story of Aniros, a young woman pursuing her dreams against her father's resistance. While finding solace in her grandmother Ouma's wisdom, she discovers a family secret that sends ripples through their village when a stranger arrives, echoing Namibia's complex cultural heritage and traditional rights.
International Creative Partnership
German director Kim Mira Meyer and Namibian choir conductor Osmond !Owoseb have joined forces to create this unique production, which bridges the gap between musical theater and opera. The collaboration demonstrates Namibia's commitment to cultural development and youth empowerment through the arts.
Musical Innovation and Cultural Fusion
The production features an innovative musical approach that combines:
- Traditional African vocal techniques
 - Drumming and body percussion
 - Symphony orchestra arrangements
 - Indigenous instruments like djembe and marimba

In autumn 2024, the ensemble conducted extensive research in northern Namibia, collecting songs and stories while collaborating with local musicians. This approach to preserving and celebrating local heritage through performing arts represents a significant step in cultural preservation and modern artistic expression.
