The Namibian Wrestling Federation (NWF) demonstrated exceptional prowess at the 2025 Johnnie Reitz Big 5 Open Championships in Pretoria, South Africa, securing an impressive haul of 25 medals. The achievement marks another milestone in Namibia's growing wrestling dominance in the Southern Hemisphere.
Medal Success and Tournament Scale
The NWF's senior development team, Onghoshi, alongside junior wrestlers from Windhoek Wrestling Club and Roots Wrestling Club in Stampriet, captured 13 gold, nine silver, and five bronze medals. The tournament, recognized as the largest wrestling event in the Southern Hemisphere, attracted 1,008 participants this year.
Team Composition and Leadership
Namibia's delegation comprised 48 athletes supported by 17 coaches, officials, and team leaders, showcasing the country's commitment to developing young talent across the nation.
"Their success is a testament not only to the athletes' talent and resilience but also to the exceptional efforts of the NWF coaching team, whose strategic guidance ensured every wrestler was competition-ready," stated Anke Erasmus, secretary general of the NWF.
