NEFF Leadership Tensions Rise Over Alleged Assault Incident

Internal tensions within the Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters (NEFF) have escalated as party president Epafras Mukwiilongo faces serious allegations from the organization's secretary general regarding a physical altercation.

Assault Allegations and Denials

NEFF secretary general Festus Shaduva appeared in a widely circulated social media video sporting visible facial injuries, claiming an attack by the party president. The incident allegedly occurred at Mukwiilongo's establishment, The Site, in Oshakati West two weeks ago.

Mukwiilongo has categorically denied these allegations, stating he has been residing in Elim village, Omusati region, since last year. "I don't know that story. That is a false story. I have not seen that person in months. I'm at the village," he told The Namibian.

Campaign Vehicle Dispute

The alleged confrontation stems from disagreements over the party's election mobilization strategy, particularly regarding the deployment of campaign vehicles. Shaduva expressed concerns about vehicles being stationed at Elim, arguing it hampered the party's ability to conduct effective campaign activities.

"My concern was that the mobilisation was very weak, and time was not on our side. I didn't want the cars to be based at Elim, because by the time we reached our destinations, we would already be late," Shaduva explained.

Impact on Party Stability

This incident occurs amid broader political stability concerns in Namibia's opposition landscape. Shaduva has not filed a police report, considering such action "cowardice," but indicates he is contemplating his future within the party.

While both parties reportedly discussed the incident afterward, with Shaduva describing Mukwiilongo as "somewhat remorseful," the situation highlights significant leadership challenges within the NEFF as they approach the November elections.
