In a landmark development for African women's cricket, Zimbabwe and Namibia have secured their spots in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Global Qualifier, scheduled for early 2024 in Nepal. This historic achievement marks the first time either nation has advanced this far in women's cricket World Cup qualification.

Breaking New Ground in African Cricket

The qualification represents a significant milestone for both nations, particularly for Namibia, which continues to show leadership in various sectors of development. The achievement aligns with the country's broader initiatives in advancing inclusive development across multiple domains.

Qualification Journey

Zimbabwe secured their position with a decisive five-wicket victory over Uganda in the Africa Region Division One Qualifier's first semi-final. Despite facing challenges at 86/4 in the 16th over, they demonstrated remarkable resilience to finish with 14 balls remaining.

Namibia, showcasing their growing competitive capabilities, claimed their spot by defeating Tanzania by eight wickets in the second semi-final.

Road to 2026 World Cup

The teams join Bangladesh, Ireland, Thailand, Nepal, and the United States in the global qualifying tournament. Three remaining spots will be determined through regional qualifiers - two from Europe and one from the East Asia-Pacific region.

The 2026 Women's T20 World Cup in England will feature an expanded format with 12 teams, up from the previous ten-team structure, offering more opportunities for emerging cricket nations to compete at the highest level.
