Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has launched a bold initiative to modernize the country's agricultural sector, emphasizing youth participation and technological innovation as key drivers for food security. Speaking at the Agricultural Outlook Conference 2025 in Windhoek, the president highlighted the urgent need to address an aging farming workforce and mounting climate challenges.
Transforming Agriculture Through Youth and Technology
As part of her broader youth empowerment agenda, Nandi-Ndaitwah emphasized that agriculture remains Namibia's largest employer, supporting approximately 70% of the population through livestock and crop value chains.
Strategic Development Initiatives
The government has positioned agriculture among eight critical economic enablers in the Sixth National Development Plan. This strategic focus aligns with the administration's commitment to service delivery and economic transformation.
"Agriculture is not only about food -- it is about dignity, sovereignty, and our place in the global economy," stated President Nandi-Ndaitwah.
Climate-Smart Solutions
The initiative promotes adoption of climate-resilient farming methods, including:
- Advanced soil management techniques
 - Water-efficient irrigation systems
 - Digital innovation in farming practices
 - Sustainable resource management
